Mallorca, an island just off the coast of Spain in the Mediterranean, combines the culture and cuisine of Spain with the luxury and sunny beaches of the French Riviera.
The best way for Kiwis to get to this island paradise is to hop flights to Barcelona followed by a short jump over to Mallorca. Once there, they'll have full access to all the sand and sun this jewel of the Mediterranean can offer.
Mallorca has become a popular tourist destination, and Kiwis will likely encounter plenty of other vacationers at the more popular beaches, restaurants and bars. Yet the island is vast, and there are plenty of untouched spaces and getaways that are perfect for travelers on holiday, according to the New Zealand Herald.
The northern side of Mallorca, separated from the southern side by the formidable hills of the Sierra de Tramontana, is a fair bit quieter than the southern side, according to the news source. While travelers will be able to find beaches here, northern Mallorca also allows travelers to take in numerous sites, like the historic Alaro Castle, a striking fortress that played a role in a battle between Christians and Moors.
Whether it's shopping in small, charming villages or hiking through beautiful forests and valleys, Mallorca doesn't have to be all about the beach - if travelers delve deep enough.
