Individuals planning a holiday in India might want to consider traveling by rickshaw in order to get around the city. For those who don"t drive and who want to avoid taking the train, this form of transportation can be convenient and quick.
However, the rickshaws found in New Delhi are soon to be getting a face lift, the Telegraph recently reported. Partially to clean up the city before October"s Commonwealth Games and partially to improve the vehicles themselves, officials determined it was time to modernize the system.
Dubbed "e-ricks," the conveyances will be battery powered and have GPS technology to allow drivers to better navigate busy city streets and make it to their destinations more efficiently, the news provider reveals. Additionally, drivers will undergo training programs on how to safely operate the rickshaws.
A local official was quoted as explaining, "we plan to have 4,000 such vehicles on the roads by the time of the Commonwealth Games. If successful, the service will slowly replace all the cycle rickshaws in the city."
Next time one chooses to plan a holiday in India, taking a rickshaw might be a fun and novel way to arrive in style.
